The Foolishness of Crowds

As Sean eloquently observes, Digg is way less useful than Slashdot, because it dispenses with any editorial work whatsoever and relies soley on the alleged wisdom of the crowds.

Slashdot, with a combination of old-fashioned editorial and mass-moderation, produces a higher signal-to-noise ratio.  And that ain’t sayin much.
