Animated slideshows for Plone: Slideshow Folder

We’ve just released Slideshow Folder 4.0, a major upgrade to a product we’ve built to make it easy for folks using Plone to create beautiful animated slideshows in their sites. It’s a “Release Candidate 2”, which means we’ve tested it quite a bit, believe it’s ready for production use, and don’t *think* it has any bugs.

If you’ve ever wanted to have a slick, animated slideshow in your Plone site just by clicking “make slideshow” on a folder full of images, then Slideshow Folder is for you. Give it a spin, and let us know what you think.

  1. The demo page requires flash player. Is this app accessible for an org that needs to adhere to Section 508?

  2. Actually, there’s no Flash in it at all; it’s all accessible Javascript!

  3. Looks pretty good. Just a minor quibble. On not-state-of-the-art computers it seems there’s visible bucking. Are there any possibilities to tweek this?

  4. @Volker23: animated javascript is unfortunately somewhat processor intensive, so there’s not much that we can do about that, I’m afraid. This is a limitation of current browser implementations, but they are also making big investments here, so I would expect it will work much better on Google Chrome, and on forthcoming versions of Firefox, IE and Safari with much faster javascript errors.

  5. thanks a lot for your fast response. i just tried to reduce the filesize of the images with no noticable effect. i will recommend a hardware upgrade to the client, that’s the price for almost fullscreen imagery…
